Taking a break for this week

I was all ready to post today, but I just got some extremely sad news of a friend who lost her baby. We are separated by thousands of miles as we are in different countries, and I really wish I could be there for right now, to hold her, to cry with her, to hug her, and to just rock her till the pain dulls a bit. I would like to NOT post anything knitting-related today, to commemorate this baby's passing. I don't want it to seem like nothing has happened, because I'm sure she and her husband feel like their world has ended. If anyone has suggestions on what I can do to help them from so far away, I would appreciate it. Just yesterday I was talking to her, telling her I would send knitted items through a mutual friend for the baby. Just yesterday.

I'm sorry guys. I'll be back next week God willing with a peppier update. As for today, please take a second and pray/send well wishes in your heart to my friend, her husband and their family.

    Losing a baby at any point, whether early or late in pregnancy, is truly a devastating experience and one that takes a long time to recover from. You sound like an amazing friend and what both she and her husband need now is knowing that they are being kept in people's thoughts. A loving letter would be one of the most comforting things you can do for your friend but please don't say things like "time will heal" or "you can try again soon." What she needs now is knowing that you understand that this moment and this baby is all that matters. I send her all warm wishes.

Hello Spring! Here's a new free pattern!

Spring is FINALLY showing up in full force over here. I'm seeing flower petals floating along on the (STRONG) winds we've been having here in the Bay Area. To celebrate this change of seasons, here is a free pattern for a scarf that I designed last year. I called it Colliding Stars after my friend Melissa, who owns a calligraphy and design business called...you guessed it - Colliding Stars . She saw the initial sample of this scarf that I knit in some random green yarn I had in my stash. (Funny story - I bought the yarn from a fellow Ravelrer who had dyed it a bright neon green. I took it and overdyed the scarf a dark green, but I think I agitated the yarn too much so it had this sort of semi-felted look to it. Pretty interesting). Fall Breeze Shawl Pattern

Here is the second thing I designed. It's a very, very simple pattern, but the yarn just added another dimension to the pattern. Enjoy! :) Model: Megan May Photographer: Hector Plahar Materials Caron Simply Soft, Off-White Color; 315 yards/60z/170g- 1.5 skeins 1 set US #8/5mm straight needles The border pattern “Lace Check” was taken from “Harmony Guides: Lace and eyelets- 250 stitches to knit”, edited by Erika Knight. Lace Check Pattern (Multiple of 18+9) Row 1(wrong side): Purl Row 2: K1, *[yo, k2tog] 4 times, k10; rep from * to last 8 sts, [yo, k2tog] 4 times. Row 3: Purl Row 4: *[sl 1, k1, psso, yo] 4 times, k10; rep from * to last 9 sts, [sl 1, k1, psso, yo] 4 times, k1. Repeat these 4 rows twice more. Berry Lacey Scarf

I was playing around with some drop stitch patterns, knit this scarf, and thought I liked the way it looked. Here we go. Finished Size 6in x 7ft Yarn Malabrigo Yarn Silky Merino (51% silk, 49% merino; 150yd [137 m]/50 g [1.76oz]): Intenso colorway,  1 skein Tools US #11 (8 mm) straight or circular needles Tapestry/yarn needle Pattern Instructions Set Up Loosely cast on 17 stitches. Knit 4 rows, then continue with the row by row instructions.
